3. Randy Savage (Macho King) And Sensational Sherri (Queen Sherri)
When Randy Savage turned heel in 1989 he was smart enough to know he
had to change his persona. He couldn’t bring Miss Elizabeth around
because she’s the noble babyface valet and fans weren’t going to boo him
with her. He needed to be with somebody, so when he became “The Macho
King” they paired him up with Sensational Sherri, who used the moniker
of “Queen Sherri.”
This was a relationship where they didn’t say they were a couple or
that there was anything going on with them because Randy was
legitimately married to Elizabeth at the time, but the King and Queen
gimmick was a good way to draw heat.
Sherri was an awesome heel manager. She could go out there and take
bumps from the guys in ways that made it look believable. Even though
she’s a normal sized woman she sure now how to attack when needed as
well. Her association with Savage was perfect.
What made it work even better was how it ended. At WrestleMania 7,
when Savage famously turned babyface it was Sherri that helped the
moment by attacking him. That’s when Elizabeth ran to his aid to help
cement his babyface turn. Elizabeth taking out the crazy chick is one of
the more memorable moments in WrestleMania history.
Savage and Sherri were a great heel pairing. It was a lot of fun watching them together.
