4 Ups And Downs From Last Night’s WWE Smackdown (Jan 15)

3. Another Short Divas Match

This is a constant complaint among WWE fans. It’s something that has been a problem for well over five years now, if not more. Divas matches barely get any time on Raw or Smackdown. If you want to see them in longer matches you need to watch NXT, Main Event (when it was around) or Superstars. The thing is those shows don’t have a bigger audience, so most fans just ignore them.
Natalya faced Divas Champion Nikki Bella in a non-title match. In typical WWE fashion, the champion Nikki lost the match in under three minutes. Paige was there to watch Natalya’s back and actually hit Brie, which distracted Nikki.
WWE loves booking champs to lose non-title matches. It happens nearly every week on television. At least Natalya won with a Sharpshooter instead of the rollup finish that ends a lot of diva matches including on Raw when Paige lost.
It appears as though WWE is building to a triple threat Divas Title match at the Royal Rumble with Nikki defending against Natalya and Paige. That match will probably get the 5-8 minutes that PPV diva matches usually gets, but it would be nice if they were given more of a chance on television.
