10 Big Mistakes WWE Will Probably Make Before 2017
9. Splitting The Wyatt Family Permanently
What’s going on with The Wyatt Family at the moment? Erick Rowan and Bray Wyatt looked set to remain as a unit when the draft sent Braun Strowman to Raw, but they hit a bump in the road on SmackDown two weeks ago. Wyatt left Rowan’s sheep mask lying in the ring and walked out on him after the latter’s inability to beat Dean Ambrose one-on-one, and Rowan didn’t appear with Wyatt at all on this week’s broadcast.
WWE haven’t formally announced or acknowledged a split yet, but it looks like this is the direction they’re headed in. The fact that Rowan appeared with his old singles entrance music on this week’s Main Event only increases the speculation. It seems the Wyatts are headed in separate directions.
Luke Harper held his own during the previous Wyatt Family split, but Rowan was lost without his allies, and Wyatt’s persona loses much of its juice when he’s not commanding a group of indoctrinated followers. It’s like WWE have learned nothing from the previous split’s mistakes, and that’s incredibly frustrating.
Can Bray succeed on his own? He’s charismatic enough to pull it off, but he loses a lot of strength and intrigue without his followers. Rowan, meanwhile, is too limited to play anything other than a supplementary role, and it’s hard to envisage his place on SmackDown’s roster without the Family.
