Maybe it’s coming a little sooner than originally planned, but there’s seemingly a groundswell building for Randy Orton to rebel against the Authority, so fans might be getting it very soon. (Memo to John Cena: This is how you rage against the machine.) Orton openly lashed out against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon for not handling business (read: Seth Rollins) and took matters into his own hands, snapping off an RKO on Rollins before anyone could react.
The look of frustration from Triple H alone sold it, but he and Stephanie talking up Rollins as the future and the standard-bearer of WWE and the Authority set everything up perfectly. Orton barely has to change his character at this point. His fired-up promo, where he referenced the anger management classes he took eight years ago, channeled an energy fans haven’t seen in a while.
When Orton completely turns his back on the Authority, he’s going to get an insane reaction. It’s just a question of how soon that will come – perhaps he’ll join Team Cena against Team Authority at Survivor Series.
