20 Best WWE Matches Of 2014 - 12
12. John Cena vs. Cesaro (February 17 RAW)
For fans of the King of Swing, you’ve got to be wondering, right about now, what in the world went wrong this year. How could a guy that was white hot in the first quarter (and change) of 2014 have fallen so far back into obscurity? It’s a good question that will hopefully be remedied by a push next year. If you need evidence to verify how quickly things could turn around for him, though, look no further than his entire month of February 2014.
Cesaro had a number of great matches on television once he qualified for the Elimination Chamber, all of which made him a prime candidate for the breakout star of the year. His match with Randy Orton on Smackdown was excellent, but he earned the 2014 TV Match of the Year against John Cena on Raw. With three hour Raws and the deemphasis of Smackdown, it has become increasingly difficult for TV matches to stand out; there’s just so many of them. Cesaro vs. Cena will be remembered for a long time.
Rumor has it that a mutual respect exists between the two. It showed in their match. What an outstanding performance…
