Following his loss of the WWE Championship to Eddie Guerrero at 2004’s No Way Out event, Brock Lesnar shifted his focus to the man who cost him the title: Goldberg. The two had crossed paths one or two times before, setting the stage for a massive clash of the titans at WrestleMania 20. Up until this point, not many people were able to overcome The Beast, but if there was anyone who could knock Lesnar down a peg, it was Goldberg. Considered to be two of the most dominant Superstars of their respective times, their WrestleMania encounter was shaping up to be must-see.

However, due to the imminent departures of both Lesnar and Golderg from the company, it led to their match at ‘Mania being subject to various chants and catcalls from the crowd. Even if that information hadn’t been leaked beforehand, Lesnar and Goldberg still lacked in-ring chemistry and it caused their contest to suffer big time. Both factors were a major reason why the match is remembered as being one of the worst in the history of The Shows of Shows despite special guest referee Stone Cold Steve Austin’s best attempts to salvage it. In the end, Goldberg pinned Lesnar to close out his career, but the ending result was overshadowed by both men being laid out by Austin with Stone Cold Stunners to the liking of the audience.
