Story: Ken Kennedy was a star on the rise in WWE as “Mr. Kennedy” during a time in the late 2000s when they needed new stars. When Kennedy was in a ten man tag match on Raw in May of 2009, he did a spot where he dropped Orton on his previously injured shoulder. After the match was over, Orton and Kennedy had words backstage. Four days later, Kennedy was fired.
The firing surprised a lot of people because earlier in that same show, Kennedy was out there talking about how he was going to be the next WWE Champion. Since he had pushes before and they were stopped because of injuries, people believed him. Instead he got fired that same week.
Here’s how Kennedy explained it: “Randy jumped really, really hard. In wrestling it’s give and take. It was a matter of either I drop him on his head or I help him through this. His neck never even touched the mat which makes me wonder why he even went to the trainers room to get his neck taped up. He was so injured that he went on to wrestle three nights in Mexico.”
If you watch the video, you can see Kennedy lifted Orton high up and dropped him right on the shoulder. You can see Orton was visibly upset as he made a motion with his right arm as if to say “come on man” or something along those lines.
Why People Believe It: Orton has a well documented reputation for being a hot head and being a bit of a loose cannon. At least he was back then. As a top guy if he wanted to get somebody fired he probably had the power to get it done or at least influence a decision.
Should We Believe It: Yes. They were in a match. Orton looked furious after he was dropped on his shoulder and Kennedy got fired. It’s not a stretch to believe that Orton was a cause of it. Maybe WWE also fired Kennedy because he was injury prone too. That could have been part of it as well.
