The biggest swerve pulled on a wrestler; the Montreal Screwjob marked the start of the wresting boom. According to Vince McMahon what he had to do was bury a wrestler who was heading for another promotion. For the fans it was betrayal of their hero.

Screw job ended up with Bret having a big hiatus from WWE if Vince had left Bret on a good note during that time, maybe when WCW dissolved, Bret would’ve returned to WWE and performed some great matches that was still left in him.

Instead what we saw was an old battered Bret Hart returning to WWE to have one revenge match with Vince McMahon which was a big mess.
