Was Brock Lesnar meant to break the Undertaker's streak at Wrestlemania 30?
Brock Lesnar’s win at Wrestlemania 30 over the Undertaker may not be as unexpected as people think.
Back in 2010, it was reported that the Undertaker felt that Brock Lesnar was the right man to end his Wrestlemania streak.
Of course who could forget their memorable face off at the UFC 121 during Ariel Helwani’s interview . Lesnar wasunder his UFC contract at that time and despite creating a fuss, the feud didn’t occur between them.
The Undertaker believed it was best for business to lose to the beast incarnated. While nobody gave it a serious thought back then, the outcome of Wrestlemania 30 has produced reactions which indicate that the Undertaker might have handpicked him as the man to break the streak.
Nobody saw this coming. The Phenom’s streak was the one constant thing over the main event’s illustrious history with many icons trying and failing on every occasion. But all that changed when Lesnar delivered the F5 and pinned the Deadman in the middle of the ring. The reaction in the Mercedes Benz Superdome just amplified the whole world’s disbelief on the outcome.
It is perhaps the most shocking result after the infamous 1997 “Screw job” segment of Brett Hart and Vince McMahon. What was even more baffling was Brock Lesnar was chosen to do it when he is a relative part timer in the company as opposed to his ‘The next big thing’ gimmick which made the world sit up and take notice of him.
That 10 second face-off at the UFC did more promotion that any of the last two months heading into WrestleMania 30 which was quite mediocre considering the pre build up of the previous streak ending storylines we have been treated to all these years. And the outcome added further disappointment as Brock cemented his name in the history books of the WWE.
Undertaker perhaps wanted to bow out and end the streak on the grandest stage of all. But how will this defeat shape up the company’s future? Most importantly what does this move mean for the Undertaker? Will he hang his boots? Or will he come back for more? As of now things remain unanswered for the WWE universe.
