10 Wrestlers Who Retired Too Young-2
2. Shane McMahon
Whether elbowing Big Show off the stage at Judgement Day 2000, falling 40 feet at SummerSlam in 2000, or getting hurled through (and against) glass panes by Kurt Angle at King of the Ring 2001, Shane McMahon’s matches were always impressive. Eager to disprove the feeling backstage that he was only there because he was the boss’ son, he took crazy risks during matches that paid off.
After featuring on WWE TV heavily from 1999 to 2001, and appearing sporadically until 2009, he finally left the WWE entirely in order to peruse other business interests. He’s now the CEO of a broadband company in China and is involved with the International Sports Management company. That’s all well and good, but wouldn’t you like to see him FALL OFF THE TITANTRON AGAIN?
The Shane vs Vince dynamic was always interesting and, although WWE went to that particular well a little too often back in the Attitude Era days, it would be fun to revisit it. Especially these days with Triple H’s ever increasing backstage involvement becoming more public. While Triple H leading the company in real life is something to be celebrated, an on-screen authority battle with Shane McMahon might be interesting. And now that the WWE has enough Kurt Angle-level talent at their disposal, it’s certainly possible that he could be carried to a match as good as that one at King of the Ring 2001.
