10 Biggest WWE Rematches That Never Happened
3. Brock Lesnar Vs. CM Punk – SummerSlam 2013
Why There Was No Rematch: CM Punk left WWE in early 2014.
This was a dream match that lived up to the hype. It was arguably the 2013 match of the year with Lesnar as the dominant heel that was fighting for his advocate Paul Heyman, who had turned on Punk prior to this.
They had an awesome battle where it looked like Punk might get the win, but ultimately Lesnar was able to get the victory thanks in part to Heyman getting involved. This match showed how great Lesnar is as a heel bully working against an underdog babyface who showed a lot of heart and didn’t stop fighting back.
Sadly, this was their only match. Lesnar didn’t work another match for the rest of 2013 while Punk was so frustrated with things in WWE that he quit after the Royal Rumble in January 2014.
Since it seems unlikely that Punk will ever return to WWE (never say never, right?), this likely was a onetime thing with no rematch coming. That’s a shame because Lesnar worked three average matches with Triple H that really could have been settled in a one match feud while this rivalry could have been incredible if they had another match or two.
