John Cena ended up doing HUGE business with The Rock at WrestleMania 28 and 29. In fact, Mania 28 was the highest grossing pay per view event in pro wrestling history. Rock and Cena truly deserve their legend tags.
However, before working together, they really didn’t like each other. Cena rarely speaks out of turn in the WWE, but when it came to The Rock, he was vocally critical of one of WWE’s greatest superstars.
“Here’s a guy who said he was WWE through and through, and then the first chance to take a road to a different career path, he took it.” Cena said in 2009.
He went on to say “It just cheapens that phrase, “Oh, I love this business.” So then next time I come up and say I love this business, well, the guy before me who said that left. That doesn’t look good for me or our business.”
That’s right… Cena questioned Rock’s respect and passion. In some ways he even questioned Rock’s family, as this business is in the very blood of the Rock’s name.
Some fans felt like Cena had a point. Other fans felt as if he was disrespecting an all time great who had built the house that Cena was playing in.
