Intriguingly, this show was only four days after Calaway had given his notice to WCW that he was leaving the company and heading to the World Wrestling Federation. The idea that he’d get a World Championship match (even as a substitution) on his way out of the door pretty much tells you everything you ever needed to know about World Championship Wrestling’s early days.

Two months after wrestling Sting, he’s debuting at the Survivor Series and on his way to a big money feud with Hulk Hogan. Incredible.
