‘The Gold Standard’ might not have made it to WWE if it wasn’t for his Minnesota wrestling team mate Lesnar, who asked that Benjamin be signed along with him in 2000 before he put pen to paper.

Having a friend in the WWE training camp was a big plus for Lesnar, as he helped make the transition easier. The two formed a formidable tag team called ‘The Minnesota Stretching Crew’ and won the OVW Southern Tag Team Chamionships on three separate occasions.

Lesnar and Benjamin were frequent opponents in the WWE in 2002 and 2003 as Benjamin and new partner Charlie Haas formed a stable with Lesnar foe Kurt Angle in the run up to WrestleMania XIX.

Benjamin was a great talent in his own right and he was arguably underutilised be the WWE. Whether or not he would have made it to WWE without Lesnar’s help is open to debate.
