10 Most Controversial Randy Orton WWE Backstage Stories
4. Signature Pharmacy
In August 2007, eleven superstars were brought to the attention of WWE by the Albany District Attorney’s Office for their role in using the online pharmaceutical store Signature Pharmacy to obtain performance enhancing drugs. Names on that list include ranged from Hall of Famers like Edge and Booker T, down to Funaki and Charlie Haas. One important name not on the list was Randy Orton, who was named separately by Sports Illustrated and the Daily News of New York City as being involved.
Out of all the superstars named, Randy Orton was the only one not suspended, and was actually main eventing Pay-Per-Views around this time. WWE claim that this is because Randy was already suspended for this in 2006, but the findings of the District Attorney’s office stated that he had recieved somatropin, nandrolone, stanozolol from the site over a period ranging from 2004 – 2007, meaning he was still dealing with them post-suspension.
This was raised by Brian Cohen, a senior investigator and policy advisor for the United States House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform at a U.S. Congressional investigation into WWE’s business practices in September 2007, who questioned if this underminded the entire Wellness Policy. In 2010, WWE officially stated that Orton wasn’t suspended as his name was on no list provided by the District Attorney’s Office.
