Story: Orton turned babyface in 2010 around WrestleMania 26 and he stayed in that role until the summer of 2013 when he turned heel. During that time, there were reports that Orton was miserable as a babyface. He’s a guy that really didn’t like playing to the fans or changing his persona enough. Basically he turned because he was a veteran and WWE needed him in that role since they lacked full time main event babyfaces other than John Cena. He became the face of the Smackdown brand.
He actually had one of the best feuds of his career in 2011 with Christian when Orton was the face. Orton also put over Mark Henry clean for the World Title, which was a big boost to Henry’s career. He wasn’t bad in the role at all. It just didn’t seem like he was ever comfortable or that he liked it.
When he turned heel in 2013 he commented about how it felt normal for him again and that “the Viper was back” among other things.
Why People Believe It: He really didn’t look comfortable as a face. Some people completely change how they act when they’re a face. Orton didn’t.
Should We Believe It: Absolutely. Orton is somebody that has done a better job as a heel throughout his career. He may end up a babyface again when he’s in the latter stages of his career just because that happens with most wrestlers, but when we reflect back on his career it’s his heel work that will be remembered most.
