10 Things WWE Did Right At Night Of Champions-6
6. The Second PPV In A Row With Three Title Changes
Is this a good thing? Maybe. It all depends on how WWE chooses to book the current champions. The negative thing about doing three title changes at two PPVs in a row is that it makes the champions look terrible because they can’t win a match to retain their titles, but it also opens up other possibilities.
The first title change was Goldust & Stardust beating The Usos for the Tag Titles. It wasn’t totally clean because Stardust grabbed the tights, but it was booked in an intelligent way. The change was predictable because they must have turned heel for a reason. Apparently the “cosmic key” is in fact the tag team titles.
When The Miz beat Dolph Ziggler it was a bit of a surprise. It was also a “heel grabs the tights after the rollup” finish, which fits the persona of The Miz as a cheap heel. Ziggler ended up winning it back on Raw, but it was still a change here.
AJ Lee beating Paige in the triple threat match for the Divas Title was a surprising change just because Paige only held the title for five weeks. Last month I wrote that Paige winning was the right move. This isn’t a change I really agree with although it’s likely being done so AJ the babyface can drop it to Nikki the heel. Either that or Paige gets it back to set continue their “hot potato” feud full of title changes.
Title changes should always be considered a pretty big deal, but when they happen too often they cheapen the value of the title a bit. It’s important for WWE to play their cards right because if they keep doing random title changes it will do more harm than good.
