3. Teddy Long Is As Cheap As Chips

Another occasion when Triple H was judge in wrestlers’ court: for the APA versus Theodore Long, Esq. Now, being accused of being “a cheap m*therf*cker” is one thing – a good many pro wrestlers have to be fairly cheap to stand any chance of having any money left after they retire, and even the bona fide main event level talent have families to take care of. Mick Foley, for example, has the industry wide reputation of being so tight that he makes a photo finish look like a long distance relationship.
And then there’s Teddy Long. Granted, Bradshaw would haul someone up in wrestlers’ court for booking into the same hotel as him, but in this case it’s perfectly justified. Travelling with Teddy was a nightmare – not only would he attempt to skip out on paying his side of a bill, but he’d actually pretend to be asleep in the car when they arrived at a toll booth so as to get out of paying his share.
The story goes that Triple H was about to give a very definite verdict against Long, and asked him whether he had anything to add: Teddy then produced a character witness, womens wrestling legend Mae Young. For some reason, Mae thought that Teddy was being accused of selling Viagra, and tore a strip off Triple H, saying she had no idea why wrestlers would need that kind of assistance anyway.
The court ruled in favour of the APA, Teddy being sentenced to buying Faarooq and Bradshaw chicken and beer for a month. Anyone who knows anything about Faarooq and Bradshaw knows that that’s a lot of chicken and beer.
