The Undertaker’s 10 Most Notorious Urban Legends-5
5. He Nearly Choked Out Kurt Angle On A Plane
Story: Since Kurt Angle is WWE’s only Olympic Gold medalist, Vince McMahon probably wanted to see how tough he really was. At one point, McMahon even took down Angle successfully and would apparently brag about it all the time. It was done in a joking kind of manner.
Angle wanted to pay him back, so he took down McMahon while they were on a plane. During their wrestling battle, apparently they woke up Undertaker, who was sleeping on the plane. Their fight was just for fun, but Undertaker didn’t know that and he ended up grabbing Angle and putting him in a chokehold.
Once Undertaker was told that it was just a joke, he let Angle go. There are different versions of the story with some saying that Undertaker choked Angle so hard that was nearly unconscious. Others say it wasn’t that tight and he was just doing what he could to pull Angle off Vince.
There wasn’t an issue after that since Angle respected Undertaker and it was all a misunderstanding.
Why People Believe It: Undertaker is 6’10″ and 300 pounds. If he wants to grab Kurt Angle and choke him out then there’s not much Angle can do to stop that even though he’s one of the toughest wrestlers there’s ever been. Size matters.
Should We Believe It: Some parts yes, other parts no. The part about Angle/McMahon tussling on an airplane sounds legit because they’re two guys with big egos that would do juvenile stuff like that just to keep themselves entertained. Undertaker choking out Angle so that he’s nearly unconscious seems fake. Maybe he did enough to pull Angle off, but to choke him like that? No. I don’t buy that part of it.
One thing is for sure. That was probably one of those moments where Vince realized how much Undertaker really cares about his boss because when he woke up from his deep sleep he went after Angle right away. Wrong place at the wrong time for Angle.
