The Undertaker’s 10 Most Notorious Urban Legends-3
3. He Confronted Vince McMahon At Survivor Series 1997; Was Filmed But Never Shown
Story: When Bret Hart worked for WWE in 1997 he had a film crew following him around for what ended up being the Wrestling With Shadows documentary. It wasn’t supposed to lead his unexpected exit from WWE at Survivor Series 1997, but that’s what happened when Bret was screwed over by Vince McMahon.
Following the incident in Montreal, McMahon had to answer to some of his wrestlers including Undertaker. As mentioned, Undertaker was seen as a leader in the locker room and he apparently got right in Vince’s face as soon as McMahon arrived backstage. Apparently Undertaker wasn’t too happy about what happened and made it known to McMahon. He didn’t hit him, but he was clearly upset.
Their confrontation was captured on film, but it was never shown to the public. The reason it wasn’t shown is because is because Undertaker had a contract that stated they couldn’t show anything that would harm his character. In other words, they couldn’t show him in any backstage situations because “The Deadman” character was so protected.
Why People Believe It: A lot of people were mad at Vince McMahon after Survivor Series 1997, so it makes sense that Undertaker would get in his face too. The Wrestling With Shadows film did show a lot of people backstage, but Undertaker wasn’t on there much at all.
Should We Believe It: Yes. It was likely a case of Undertaker standing up for others in the locker room and letting McMahon know that they weren’t going to tolerate it. The fact that it was taped and then not shown is also believable too.
