8 Things WWE Must Do To Make Paige A Star
6. Establish A Core Set Of Moves
This isn’t something that’s exclusive to Paige, this is something that’s been missing from the entire Divas division for quite some time: theatrics.
One of the problems the women of WWE face is their size- or lack thereof it. For anyone who has studied theatre, you’ll know the golden rule of stage acting is PROJECTION. The Big Show’s finish is a punch. He can get away with that because he’s f*cking massive. Can you imagine people marking out for Paige if her finish was a punch?
Then you look at Daniel Bryan. The man can walk into Ring of Honor or New Japan Pro Wrestling tomorrow and have the match of the night, he’s that good. Occasionally, you’ll get to see glimpses of Bryan’s true, technical prowess, when he gets 20+ minutes on a PPV however, most of the time? It’s his series of kicks with the “YES!”s. It’s his three running dropkicks. It’s his diving headbutt, the “Flying Goat”, the running knee and a whole hell of a lot of “YES!” gestures!
It’s ironic, really. John Cena and Randy Orton, for years, did the same thing and were crucified for it. Fact of the matter is, the core WWE audience tunes in, every week, to see that same small highlight reel of theatrical, entertaining moves. Now, I’m not saying Paige needs to start chanting “YES!” or waving her hand in front of her face but she does need to PROJECT!
Everything she does most be as big as it can be; as flashy and entertaining as it can be and you’ll find her size doesn’t matter. Bryan’s doesn’t. Kurt Angle’s didn’t. Angle provided the blueprint of how to do this with wrestling moves: you want to do a German Suplex, nope, do 3 and scream loudly afterwords.
Paige already does the screaming. So lets see her moveset match her theatrics. Agree or disagree, it’s the only way she’ll get over with the core WWE audience.
