2. Ziggler Wins! And Gets A Main-Event Storyline

These days, it’s a big deal when a secondary champ wins a non-title match. For a while now, the M.O. has been for the champ to lose over and over, then win a title defense, and the announcers will talk about what a great champ the guy has been. Monday, Dolph Ziggler was seen talking to John Cena moments after Cena was tasked with finding teammates for Survivor Series. Kane interjected himself and made a match to punish the fans… er, Ziggler.
Maybe beating Kane has lost its luster since anyone can do it these days, but Ziggler pulled off the win, then Cena saved him from a post-match Authority beatdown. The turn of events came when Ziggler returned the favor at the end of Raw to help out Cena. That might not seem like a big deal, but realize that Ziggler previously had feuded with Cesaro (who he beat in two straight falls Sunday night, no less), and Miz and his stunt double. Stepping into a main event angle with Cena and the Authority is a huge leap forward for Dolph, even if he’s playing the sidekick role.
And yes, there is a conflict in praising Dolph’s involvement in an angle that was panned a few pages ago. Call this Ziggler factor the silver lining to the Cena fighting the bosses storyline. If it actually elevates some talent out of the doldrums, then it could end up being a positive.
