5 Possible “Plan Bs” WWE Should Consider For Roman Reigns-3
3. John Cena Gets Redemption
Meet the safest of safe options.Should Roman Reigns not be able to perform during the Road to WrestleMania, the safest – and probably most tempting – route for WWE would be to insert John Cena into the role of challenger. Assuming Cena loses at Night of Champions, the story would write itself, with Cena having to reassert himself, win the Rumble and then take on the man who beat him twice, Brock Lesnar.
For most fans, this is probably the least fulfilling option out there. While the match itself would probably be excellent, it just wouldn’t spur fans to buy the PPV or subscribe to the Network. We would have seen the match three times (twice in the previous eight months), and it would be another WrestleMania main event title match for Cena. Young kids might rejoice, but older fans would probably revolt more than they would have had Batista fought Orton one-on-one at Mania XXX.
The positive is that Cena would bring the goods and is a proven main event star. He’s been in this spotlight before and would deliver, which a gun-shy Vince McMahon might consider the most important factor if he has to go to a Plan B.
That doesn’t mean Cena is the best option, but it certainly explains why he would be an extremely viable one.
