6. Evening Gown Match: Sable vs. Luna Vachon – Unforgiven 1998

In the spring of 1998, Sable was hot. Really hot. She was a sex symbol for millions of fans, most of whom wondered what was underneath the skin-tight leather she wore every Monday night on Raw. At least those who had not seen the fairly awesome shoot she did with Raw Magazine earlier in the year. Looking to capitalize on Sable’s popularity and give fans what they wanted, the first-ever Evening Gown match was booked for the Unforgiven: In Your House pay-per-view. Her opponent? Luna Vachon, whom Sable had been embroiled in a heated rivalry with in the months leading into the show. Close-up camera shots of Sable in a lacy purple bra and matching panties gave fans everything they wanted from the match, and then some. There was never a chance in hell that Sable was going to win the match, especially when doing so meant robbing fans of opportunity to see her wearing as little as possible. Of course, she would pose for Playboy magazine a year later, ruining the effect that the match had on all of the sweaty-palmed boys watching from their parents’ basements but for that one-year span, it was one of the most rewound and paused matches of all-time.
