4. Full Moon Over London – SummerSlam 1992

As we have touched on previously on this list, there was a time when the women in WWE were far more conservative than they would become during the late 1990s and early 2000s. That changed when Sensational Sherri became the valet for the up-and-coming Shawn Michaels in 1992. She began wearing tighter and more suggestive outfits and was portrayed as somewhat of a groupie for the Heartbreak Kid. At SummerSlam that August, she would turn heads by wearing the skimpiest outfit any female performer had ever sported on a Vince McMahon-produced program. Leading Michaels through the curtain for his match with “The Model” Rick Martel, Sherri was shot from behind by the WWE camera crew. What the closeup angles revealed was the fact that Sherri was sporting a thong/ass-less chaps outfit that took even the boss, who was on commentary that afternoon, by surprise. It would be years before any Diva would be permitted to wear that little on-screen again but, at the same time, it was also a strong indicator of the buzz that blatant sexuality could attract. It was that buzz and word-of-mouth that McMahon’s company would ride throughout the Attitude Era as it generated a larger audience on a weekly basis, thanks in large part to the increase and intensification of sexuality on Monday Night Raw.
